What Kinds of Things Come in the Mail?

Talk about the different things that you can receive in the mail. Some items could be:

Letters, bills, magazines, postcards, thank you notes, invitations to parties or gatherings, advertisements, cards, appointment reminders, newspapers, packages, etc.

Take the list of things that come in the mail and categorize them. Have students try to come up with at least ten items under each category. For example:

Cards: Other then Holidays

birthday

anniversary

sympathy

get-well

thank you

I’m sorry

graduation

new job

etc.

A separate category could be Cards: For Holidays

Christmas

Valentine’s Day

St Patrick’s Day

Easter

Mother’s Day

Father’s Day

etc.

Advertisements

food

clothing

furniture

books

store sale items

etc.

What’s in the Mail This Week?

Have children keep track this week of all the different items their family received in the mail. Graph the items to see which kinds of things were received the most, the least, etc.
